Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate.

to make them what you want them to become.

Participants will share opinions, outline their vision for the future, generate possibilities, initiate projects, and open leadership opportunities.

These events continue the Convention for the Future process, a broad cooperative effort by diverse individuals and groups to develop our region. David Beurle, founder and principal of Innovative Leadership Australia, will lead these programs. Beurle is a regional community and economic development expert with experience across the United States and around the world.

Admission is free.

NOW IS THE TIME.  THIS IS THE PLACE.   YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.

The effort to align our region for an extraordinary future through the Convention for the Future process was launched at MVCC in Utica in January 2006. More than 500 residents participated.

Participants heard case studies and compared our strengths and weaknesses to the top 10 attributes of successful regional communities.

Our region was judged high on:
  • Strong belief in and support for education
  • Strong presence of traditional institutions that are integral to community life
  • Willingness to seek help from outside
Participants judged our region to be weak on:
  • Deliberate transition of power to new leaders
  • Participatory approach to community decision making
  • Invest in the future—build to last
  • Communities and regions are self-reliant
  • Creatively build new economic opportunities
The Convention for the Future initiative to align our region for an extraordinary future is being produced by Breakthrough Central New York in association with Oneida County Communities That Care and in cooperation with several other organizations to expand and intensify the breakthrough.
